My many years as a Brooklyn car accident attorney has taught me that what you do immediately after a car accident can make a huge difference to how your case will turn out.
If you are seriously hurt call 911, wait for the ambulance and get immediate care.
If your injuries are not life threatening the following steps can make all the difference.
Call and wait for the police. In a recent case where I was hired as a Danbury auto accident lawyer the client told me that she didn’t call the police because the other driver told her he was 100% at fault and he would tell that to his insurance company. She was shocked to learn he later told his insurance company that it was her fault the accident happened.
Take pictures of the location of the cars BEFORE you move them. After an accident the other driver, or even the police may tell you to move your car to let traffic go by. If your car is in a dangerous place obviously move it at once, but if not take a picture of the location of the vehicles as this may be important evidence for later. In a case where we were hired by the client to be their Brooklyn car accident attorney, we were able to get photos from a reporter who happened to wander past the scene. The pictures proved the other driver lied about where his car was when the impact happened.
These small things can make a BIG difference in your case!
